Caim

caim (n.) lit. celtic word “sanctuary”; an invisible circle of protection, drawn around the body with the hand. Roadkill, salt, blue paint, hunting camera, projector
2018

This deer was found on the road, just dead and still warm. It was loaded into my CRV and carried into an area of woods. The scene of decomposition was set, recorded for two months, and then cleaned at the end of the process. The video record brings us into conversation with process of decay. My interventions into the process -- recording, covering, and preserving the body-- seek to question our fascination, disgust, and limitations in understanding death.
